Concrete Safety Roundtable
Written by Howard Hawk of Cadman
The “Concrete Placement Safety Roundtable” now re-named the “Concrete Safety Roundtable” (CSR) met at The Conco Companies administrative office in Kent on June 17 2009. Those present were representatives from the AGC Safety Department local general contractors concrete pumping and ready mix companies. This forum has been meeting since late 2007. During this time the group has made huge strides toward educating industry participants how to identify and avoid potential hazards in the concrete placement arena. As previously mentioned our group’s name has changed. Initially the group’s key focus on pump safety was based on several injuries involving concrete pumps. With the introduction of a new name the group will address and make improvements on all aspects of concrete construction safety focusing and offering a broad spectrum of training on a quarterly basis. These trainings will be run in conjunction with the regular meetings. The meeting schedule for the current year is; Sept 16 2009 Dec. 16 2009 Mar. 17 2010 and June 16 2010. They are currently scheduled and held at the Seattle AGC building; unless otherwise posted. Some training topics offered in the next year will include Overhead and Buried Power Concrete Pump Safety Lowering Third Party Liability and Municipal DOT and Neighborhood Compliance Information Forum. Our goal for the next year with the help of the AGC and its members is to encourage as many participants from within with the construction industry as possible to attend these trainings and create a safer work place. The committee also offers trainings at your facility and structured to fit your needs. All interested in updates or further information please contact AGC’s Elizabeth McKay at emckay@agcwa.com or 206.284.0061; or Howard Hawk of Cadman at hhawk@cadman.com 425.961.7290 or cell 425.766.3112.
