Aecon Buildings Receives Award from L&I
On April 8 2009 Aecon Buildings Inc. was presented with an award of commendation from the Department of Labor and Industries. The framed certificate was signed by Director Judy Schurke and presented by Consultation Manager John Geppert in recognition of a full calendar year (2008) without claims. Aecon had a streak of 1007 days without a lost time accident which represents the full calendar years of 2007 and 2008 and part of 2009.
Its not very often that a contractor can make it to this milestone but when they do its not by accident said Mandi Kime AGCs Director of Safety. Aecon has invested a great deal in their safety program and we are proud to work with them.
During the acceptance speech George Kramer President of Aecon specifically recognized Dan Friess Safety Manager as being a big part of Aecons success. He said Most people show up to their jobs every day and work. But not Dan he lives his job he embodies the role of Safety Manager. Dan accepted the award and gave thanks to the AGC Retro Program and the AGC Safety Department for helping him along the way.
Dan said Its about good leadership support from senior management and great subcontractors. It is a lot of time on site; a lot hands-on time. If you spend the time on site and do your site visits talk with people; you can amp them up get people excited about it. Once the numbers start climbing and the days start going right everyone gets excited about it.
