AGC Urges Congressional Support for Columbia River Crossing Project

The Associated General Contractors of Washington (AGC) supports the Columbia River Crossing project. The existing I-5 Columbia River Bridge is outdated unsafe and a major contributor to costly traffic congestion and the highest accident rate of any section of I-5.
The replacement of the Columbia River Crossing Bridge will provide safer travel more commuter choice and better freight mobility. The new Crossing will not only solve a wide range of transportation issues it will ensure the vitality of our northwest economy. The current bridge is considered to be the weak link in the Mexico and Canada trade corridor. A new bridge is essential for the economy because it will relieve congestion keep goods moving and improve access to highways ports and labor markets.
This transportation investment is also important because it will create jobs and generate tax revenues for both Washington State and Oregon. For each dollar invested in new construction the Washington State economy generates an additional $1.97 of economic activity throughout the state. For each $1 million invested in new construction an additional 15.95 jobs are created. This project would create between 44445 and 66990 jobs.
Businesses and citizens recognize the value of investing in important infrastructure projects. They understand the impact the Crossing will have on our regions economic growth and they realize that our growing region demands more transportation options.
We urge you to show your support for this important project by helping secure federal funding.
