William "Bill" Dickson passes at 96

Long-time AGC member and construction-industry leader William Burns “Bill” Dickson passed away on Friday June 12 2015.

Bill was a constant presence in the Puget Sound and Washington State construction industry since the founding of the William Dickson Company in 1940 serving actively as company president from 1971 until his passing in his 96th year. The company was involved in much of Washington States infrastructure including Interstate 90 over Snoqualmie Pass three five-mile sections of I-5 Highway 512 to Puyallup and the Highway 16 spur into downtown Tacoma. Over the decades Bills company demolished many structures including the Seattle post office Tacoma City Hall Bremerton’s naval hospital and a nuclear power plant on the Hanford nuclear reservation. He served as president of the Associated General Contractors’ Tacoma chapter in 1964.

Bill will be fondly remembered especially by many AGC Southern District members for his friendly smile his industry and community involvement and his sense of humor. He was well-known for sharing favorite jokes at countless Southern District dinner meetings over the years. Family members and employees said “Bill was kind generous and never said a bad thing about anyone. He treated everyone the same from the most senior employee all the way down to the newest entry-level employee. They all felt Bill’s warmth and respect.”  

Funeral services will be held on Monday June 22 at 11:00 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Tacoma at S. 12th and Pearl.
