Advanced American Construction for McNary JBS Outfall Pipe Relocation Umatilla 
Oregon
Lead Architect and Engineer: US Army Corps of Engineers – Walla Walla District
The goal of this project was to improve conditions for passage of Chinook salmon and steelhead across the McNary Dam on the Columbia River. In addition to construction of a state-of-the-art fish “superhighway” the Advanced American Construction team completed major improvements within the existing fish facility. The system included custom fabricated 36 flume anchored atop 19 shallow foundations 42 HDPE pipe buried in dense soil and 36 steel pipe anchored into the bedrock of the Columbia river by 24 massive concrete shafts. A stringent schedule for in-water work resulted in an enhanced fish passage system without impact on the Columbia River navigation system.

Flatiron Construction Corp. for Point Bonita Lighthouse Pedestrian Bridge San 
Francisco California
Lead Engineer: FHWA-Central Federal Lands Highway Division; HDR Inc.
The Flatiron team was tasked with constructing a near-identical replica of the historic Point Bonita Lighthouse Pedestrian Bridge in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area north of San Francisco originally built in 1954. Considering the site’s unique environmental concerns Flatiron minimized disruption to local wildlife by using ATVs rather than helicopters to move material onsite and worked to mimic the look of the area’s natural rock formations with their artificial rock stabilization work. The new 156-foot main span and approaches were completed on time and budget with an expected 50-year lifespan. The original bridge was located on a crumbling precipice 124 feet above the San Francisco Bay. With limited access minimal equipment and unusual safety hazards Flatiron used innovative materials and techniques to complete the bridge while keeping access to the project open to the public and access to the bridge open for the Coast Guard.
Liberty Mutual Marvin M. Black Excellence in Partnering Awards
These awards are presented annually to construction projects that epitomize the principles of partnering and the successful collaborations that work to improve construction projects.
Kiewit for SR-114 Geneva Road Design-Build Orem Utah
The completed SR-114 Geneva Road project is a high-capacity beautifully landscaped pedestrian friendly corridor. What was once an industrial road is now a safe and multimodal transportation system boasting three additional travel lanes a bike lane and a walking path. Kiewit coordinated an extensive public and business outreach program to keep the nearby businesses and residents informed of changing traffic patterns road closures and detours and planned utility outages. As the widened Geneva Road was slated to serve as a critical detour route for Interstate 15 which was also under construction it was imperative that the project be completed on time. The completed project allows for more efficient traffic flow and includes a number of aesthetic upgrades including decorative lighting textured and colored walls and landscaping. Finally this expansion has created opportunities for developers residences and business owners to further develop and enhance the corridor through master-planned communities and increased visitors to the area.

The awards recognize service projects that epitomize the essence of charitable giving through actual hands-on service and donations to charitable organizations.
Walsh Construction Company for Bridge Meadows Portland Oregon
Walsh Construction Company based in Oregon raised funds and helped build Bridge Meadows an intergenerational community that offers affordable housing mentoring and educational resources. The 53000 square foot project features a library computer lab tutor rooms craft rooms a community center and spacious courtyard. The project took nine months to complete and was supported by an employee giving campaign company sponsorships and equipment and labor donations. The Bridge Meadows community brings together the elderly and families with adopted children enriching the lives of all who stay there.
Lydig Construction for CLIMB Mt. Adams Washington
Lydig Construction raised $110000 for the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center as part of the CLIMB to Fight Breast Cancer Event. Twenty-three Lydig Construction employees participated in the CLIMB – a trek up Mt. Adams Washington State’s second highest peak at 12276 feet – and 18 reached the summit including one breast cancer survivor. In support of the effort Lydig organized training and monthly team climbs for employees. In addition the funds raised will support a new research center that will work toward simpler cancer detection less toxic therapies and more precise prevention strategies.
Flatiron for Bridges to Prosperity Santa Lucia El Rodeo and Jucuapa Abajo Nicaragua
Flatiron Construction teamed up with Turner and E.E. Cruz to build three much needed
footbridges in Nicaragua as part of the Bridges to Prosperity program. In three rural communities the rainy season created deep swiftly moving rivers that were dangerous or impossible to cross. In Santa Lucia a team of 35 employees built a 220-foot suspension bridge over the Rio Pire; in El Rodeo they built a 230-foot suspension bridge over Quebrada La Majada
River; and in Jucuapa they built a 150-foot suspension bridge. The new bridges will serve thousands of residents and provide safe access to schools doctors and work year-round. Flatiron has partnered with Bridges to Prosperity since 2009 and provides funding and logistical support for employees to travel abroad and complete these volunteer projects.
