Help Us Help You: Be Involved in AGC Government Affairs

AGCs clout in Olympia is due not only to our excellent Government Affairs team but also to the active involvement of AGC members. Active engaged members are by far the most effective weapon used by our lobbying team! You can bolster AGCs clout -- and the business environment in which your company operates -- by participating in any or all of the following ways (encourage others in your company to participate as well):

Call: Starting Monday January 21 2013 at 7:30 a.m. call into the weekly “Legislative Huddle.” This call is used to gather member feedback on legislative proposals that affect construction and to give us direction on positions AGC should take on specific legislation coming at us. Attend: Thursday February 14 2013 is AGC Lobby Day in Olympia. We will start at 9:30 with a briefing by your AGC staff and then go to the Capitol campus to meet personally with your legislators and other key legislators to discuss priority issues for the construction industry and lunch with legislators and other construction organizations. Write: Legislative alerts are a key tool used by legislators to understand how specific legislation affects their constituents. Your personal messages to legislators leverage AGC staff efforts. The AGC Government Affairs Council has published AGC’s 2013 Legislative Priorities. These are specific issues that have been identified by members as high priorities. These priorities will be the principle focus of our legislative efforts. AGC’s priorities for 2013 include:

• Business Regulation Reforms: Prevailing Wage reforms which include a “safe harbor” for contractors on wage determinations and language to limit “program creep”. Improvements to the Workers’ Comp system which would enhance claim management tools and outcomes. Simplification of taxation on construction activities.
• Transportation Revenue: A revenue package sufficient to address critical transportation safety preservation and capacity needs; including Legislative authorization of substantive public-private capital investment for transportation projects.
• Infrastructure Finance: Financing mechanisms to support essential infrastructure investments needed to repair and replace aging facilities to support population and economic growth and to protect environmental quality for the state and its communities.
