AGC Opposes Covered Loads, Sick Leave Legislation

Covered loads -- HB 2455

HB 2455 Introduced by Rep. Ruth Kagi (D-32 Lake Forest Park) this bill would require that all loads of dirt sand rock or gravel susceptible to spilling out of the bed be covered. The bill also removes the 6” freeboard exemption from covering requirements and requires that no such load exceed the freeboard of the truck bed.

Sick leave -- HB 2508/ SB 6229

Very similar to the ordinance recently adopted by the City of Seattle this bill would require sick and safe leave benefits to be provided by employers to their employees. Accrual would depend on the size of the employer and unused hours would roll over to subsequent years up to a specified maximum. Failure to comply with the bills requirements will subject an employer to liquidated damages and civil fines.
