Major Community Service Award for Korsmo
Korsmo Construction has been chosen to receive the State’s most prestigious civics award.
Korsmo and Sterling Savings Bank are recipients of the 2011 Corporations for Communities award which honors exceptional Washington businesses that make community a priority. Sterling is the winner of the large-company category and Korsmo took the small-company honor.
Secretary of State Sam Reed will present executives from the two companies with a National Association of Secretaries of State Medallion Award during a ceremony in his office tomorrow Nov. 2 at noon. The Medallion recognizes voter education efforts civic engagement government services and a commitment to giving back in the community.
“Once again there were outstanding companies nominated but Sterling Savings Bank and Korsmo Construction stood out thanks to their impressive records of community involvement” Reed said. “Both are very deserving of this honor as a result of their dedication to volunteerism and their communities” Reed said.
Korsmo Construction held the fifth annual Billy Stocking Special Olympics swim meet that served more than 200 special needs athletes; built and donated dozens of wooden bunk beds to the Tacoma downtown YMCA shelter; and coordinated with Lakewood Police Department Forza and other contractors to donate time and materials to build the “Fallen Officers Memorial.”
It’s the second year in a row that an AGC member was honored with a Corporations for Communities Award. In 2010 GLY Construction won a top honors with honorable mention awards for Tucci and Sons and Nutter Corporation.
