McKenna for Governor, Says AGC

AGC of Washington’s Board of Trustees voted to endorse Attorney General Rob McKenna for Governor in the 2012 election. The Board vote followed a process to gather the input of AGC members and interviews with McKenna and the other leading candidate Congressman Jay McKennaInslee.

“Rob McKenna is the best candidate to help the state grow out of the current economic downturn” said AGC President Pat McGarry of Manson Construction. “Rob keenly understands the issues of concern to contractors such as workers’ compensation and the need to streamline regulatory permitting processes. width=300Rob and Congressman Inslee support needed infrastructure investments but on balance Rob is the candidate best able to change the culture in Olympia and establish a climate in which the economy can thrive.”

McKenna responded: “I’m honored to have AGC of Washington’s support in my run for governor” he said. “Construction at all levels is critical to our economy and to the state budget. I look forward to working with AGC to spur new investments and get people back to work.”

AGC made the endorsement decision now even though the election is still more than a year away. “We wanted to make our decision early because as with recent gubernatorial elections we expect this one to be highly competitive” said McGarry. “We found such strong support for Rob among our membership that we wanted to allow plenty of time for those in the industry to interact with and generate support for Rob well before the election.”
