Urge WA State Congressional Reps to Repeal 3% Withholding Law

Please contact your representatives in Congress and ask them to support legislation to repeal the 3% withholding law!

The 3% withholding tax will require public owners to withhold 3% of every payment to federal state and local contractors. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) issued final regulations on the implementation of the 3% withholding law which delayed the implementation date from 1/1/2012 to 1/1/2013. The delay was due to the complexity of implementing this complicated withholding scheme.

While the delay in implementation was helpful the law needs to be permanently repealed. Legislation to do so is supported by more than one-third of all U.S. House members and one-fourth of Senators.

House members from Washington State who have NOT cosponsored the repeal bill (H.R. 674) are: Rep. Jay Inslee Rep. Norm Dicks Rep. Jim McDermott and Rep. Dave Reichert. Also NEITHER Sen. Maria Cantwell nor Sen. Patty Murray have cosponsored the repeal bills (S. 89 or S. 164) on the Senate side.

Thankfully some House members from Washington State ARE cosponsors of the repeal legislation: Rep. Rick Larsen Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler Rep. Richard “Doc” Hastings Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers and Rep. Adam Smith.

Please contact House and Senate members and urge them to support repeal of the 3% withholding law by cosponsoring one of the repeal bills. You may contact them using AGC of America’s easy-to-use Action Alert system by clicking here.
