AGC Gives $50,000 to Support CWU Construction Program

Last week leaders of AGC of Washington presented $50000 to Central Washington University in support of its Construction Management and Safety and Health programs.
“We are pleased to support CWU because of its quality education and committed professors” said AGC Executive Vice President David D’Hondt. “AGC member companies have long worked with CWU’s faculty to give students real-world knowledge. AGC members serve as guest speakers provide jobsite tours for students support club activities offer internships and employ CWU graduates throughout Washington.”
ACG’s gift will be used to fund program development—specifically recruitment outreach and student activities. The gift will help CWU recruit the best and brightest for the construction and safety management programs provides stipends for students and faculty and will purchase materials and tools to provide service learning.
Among the students who will benefit from the funds is Caleb Boston a junior in the Construction Management program. “I chose Central because of the reputation of the construction management program and because of its relatively small size which gives us the opportunity to work closely with instructors” said Boston. “When I went to the national student competition in Reno I met construction management students from around the country. In some schools you’re just a number but at Central our instructors are always available to us.”
Boston was recently hired by Walsh Construction for a summer internship.
The AGC of Washington AGC America and the AGC Education Foundation has established 18 years of giving history to CWU totaling approximately $157000 (not including its recent gift) of support. ACG’s giving over the years has gone toward hiring faculty recruitment and retention of students as well as supporting the Heavy Civil Endowed professorship.
