WPC Educates L&I Inspectors About Construction Processes
More than a dozen L&I inspectors got a better feel for construction challenges thanks to a jobsite walk hosted by Wade Perrow Construction on Feb. 2.
“About once a year AGC works with a contractor member to provide jobsite walks as part of the inspectors’ training process” said AGC Safety Director Mandi Kime. “We always appreciate the contractors who host these events as it is no small request. But we especially want to thank WPC because the jobsite walk occurred at Joint Base Lewis McChord which required the additional step of securing clearances for 17 people.”
WPC Project Manager Kevin Tustison gave the inspectors of the firm’s Lewis Army Museum renovation project. The building housing the museum dates back to the WWI era and it has had a variety of renovations. Tustison went beyond the traditional jobsite walk presentation and pointed out and explained old construction techniques comparing them to current practices. Thus the inspectors got a little construction history along the way.
Other WPC personnel who participated in the jobsite walk were Bonnie Melchior and Darcey Hardeman who helped secure the many security clearances.
Jobsite walks tie the field safety specialists’ classroom learning with real world applications. They aren’t necessarily safety-focused as the aim is to provide information about construction methods and processes.
“Jobsite walks help AGC and contractors strengthen relationships with the Department of Labor and Industries and gives us the opportunity to educate inspectors about construction issues and challenges” said Kime. “It’s a real public service and we’re grateful to WPC and all those AGC members who are willing to host them.”
