Coast Crane Co. Helps Train Rescue Workers

Recently the Snohomish County Technical Rescue Team performed a Rope Rescue Training drill on Coast Crane Company’s Seattle Tower crane yard. Approximately 20 rescue workers from both Fire District 1 of Snohomish County and the Lynnwood Fire Department participated in the training exercises.

“By providing the team a place to train and practice their skills was of great benefit to the participants” said Capt. Andy Speier Technical Rescue Training Coordinator for Fire District 1 of Snohomish County. “It was good to have an idea of what techniques may be employed to affect a rescue of their workers from a tower crane. As the organizer of this training and the departments rescue training coordinator I appreciate the efforts that Tim Keevert and Coast Crane put in to helping us conduct this valuable training.”

Three different training zones were established. In the first Coast Crane attached the operator’s cab and platforms to a hammerhead tower top and turn table for access to and removal of a disabled operator from the crane cab. A second hammerhead tower top and turntable was used for climbing unprotected ladders and tower top worker evacuations. In the third training zone Coast Crane stood a 10M section of mast attached to a secured transition for rappelling and lead climbing on steel structures.

“Working high in the air in restricted and unusual work spaces can create very difficult situations in the case of emergency evacuations” said Tim Keevert Tower Crane Coordinator for Coast Crane. “Whether it be one of our technicians the crane operator or an ironworker working during the assemble/disassembly process protecting the safety of the worker and providing all resources to assist in an emergency is an important part of Coast Crane Company’s service to the industry. We would like to thank all the fire and rescue personnel for being pre-emptive in their efforts and considering us in their training processes.
