We Win! AGC of Washington Earns National Honor

AGC of America honored AGC of Washington with the award for “Best Overall Public Relations Campaign” in 2009. The award was presented during the recent AGC national convention in Orlando and recognizes the chapter’s “Member Centered – Value Driven” campaign.
“This award is a tribute to our campaign that encompassed virtually every aspect of our association from legislative advocacy to community service to workforce development and more” said David D’Hondt AGC of Washington’s Executive Vice President. “The Member Centered – Value Driven concept recognized that we are governed by members and are member-centric focusing primarily on the concerns of our contractors. Plus we are driven to provide valuable bottom-line benefits to our members and strive to promote our values of skill integrity and responsibility within the community.”
Among the many chapter achievements in 2009 that led to the award are:
- More than 500 AGC members gained valuable first-hand information from two dozen public agencies about upcoming construction projects and dozens of members attended seminars on the stimulus package.
- AGC members sent a record-breaking number (7135) emails to legislators. In just one case AGC members were credited by legislators for derailing an onerous construction sales tax bill by sending 3700 emails to policymakers in 24 hours.
- Our new “Brown Bag” program attracted 300 attendees to frank discussions with a variety of regulatory agencies.
- 2100 high school students took advantage of opportunities to operate cranes build a structure explore construction technology and more during two Construction Career Days spearheaded by AGC.
- With the help of the AGC Education Foundation 12 students at the Whatcom Construction Academy at Meridian High School were the first to learn from a new innovative approach to teaching math skills through construction.
- Our Future Leadership Forum doubled its number of members to more than 200.
- AGC members raised and donated a record amount $12500 to the Tacoma food banks.
- Northwest Harvest food bank has significantly improved food distribution processes thanks to the rebuilding efforts of AGC volunteers.
- The first-ever AGC-Moss Adams Service to the Community Award went to BNBuilders for its comprehensive community service efforts.
- Despite the challenging economy 50 new members joined the chapter in 2009 compared to 40 new members in 2008.
