CWU Students Get OSHA 10-Hour Training from AGC Volunteers

On March 26 AGC Staff and volunteers Don Robertson from Stoneway Concrete and Roger Hurst formerly with MSA traveled to Central Washington University to provide OSHA 10-Hour training for 75 students of CWU’s Safety& Health Management and Construction Management Programs.

The course offering began as a single 20 student course but interest grew so large that the students had to be divided into two classrooms to keep within the OSHA guidelines. The students will be issued OSHA 10-hour cards which are widely recognized in industry as a base minimum of training. Many project owners and General Contractors require this training before setting foot on jobsites.

In addition to learning about OSHA/ DOSH and the safety rules students heard some great life safety lessons shared by the Kittitas County Fire Department regarding fire prevention. The students also increased their knowledge about health hazards and the Focus Four Accident Causes (Falls Electrical Caught-In & Struck by) that represent 85 percent of citations 90 percent of citation costs and 79 percent of fatalities in our industry.

There was an outstanding reception by the students many of whom stayed after class (not common after spending 10 hours discussing safety) to discuss their roles in safety as they enter the workforce.
