AGC Honors Bob Adams and Scott Fisher

AGC of Washington honored Bob Adams Vice President of Guy F. Atkinson Construction LLC as Contractor of the Year and Scott Fisher Principal with Parker Smith & Feek as Affiliate of the Year during its annual convention on Jan. 22. Several others were recognized for member recruitment and long-time AGC membership including 50 years for Ness Cranes.

Adams was recognized for his liaison activities on behalf of the industry both as a labor negotiator and as co-chair of the AGC-Washington State Department of Transportation joint task force. In 2009 he served as volunteer facilitator for complex negotiations that led to a community workforce agreement between labor groups and the joint venture firms bidding for the major SR 520 pontoon replacement project.

“Bob Adams is a diplomat of the first order” said 2009 AGC President Lee Kilcup. “He is able to achieve consensus without confrontation. He took on a difficult matter with skill eloquence and a respect for all parties.”

Adams has a long history of leadership within AGC. As chair of the AGC/WSDOT task force Adams promotes better relationships between DOT and contractors resulting in successful projects. He also serves on the task force’s Design-Build subgroup.

“Bob Adams’ leadership at Atkinson Construction and with AGC has resulted in an extremely positive and productive relationship with the Washington State Department of Transportation” said WSDOT Secretary Paula Hammond. “His approach to contract management truly embraces Partnering in its truest sense which has resulted in many high quality projects delivered ahead of schedule and under budget. The culture of creatively and innovation Bob has fostered at Atkinson is recognized around the state and nation – He is truly an industry leader and icon. Thanks Bob for being such a fine leader of industry and a great partner with WSDOT.”

In addition Adams has been an effective participant with AGC’s government affairs labor relations and public works committees. He served as AGC President in 2002.

“Bob has the esteem of not only owners and the unions but also his peers” added Kilcup. “AGC appreciates his willingness to step up and provide constructive leadership on wide-ranging industry issues.”

Fisher was recognized for his three-year term as an AGC Board member as well as for the sound advice he has provided to association leadership.

Fisher is the Construction Practice Group Leader for Parker Smith & Feek. “As a bonding expert Scott brings valuable insight to the discussion of any topic AGC addresses” said Kilcup. “He is an active and supportive member of the association.”

In addition to his Board service Fisher taught a construction bonding class for AGC staff. He is also a member of the Construction Industry Advisory Council a formal collaboration between the University of Washington and the construction industry that provides advice and support to the UW Department of Construction Management.
