Help Us Help You: Be Involved in Legislative Activities
Much is at stake in the 2010 Legislative session. AGC priorities are workers’ comp reform infrastructure investment improvements to the sales tax permit process and prevailing wage clarifications to avoid delays in retainage releases. To achieve these goals we need your help; involvement is as easy as sending off an email or participating in weekly “Legislative Huddles”. There are many ways to help AGC achieve its legislative objectives that support the construction industry:
Call: Starting Monday Jan. 11 call into the weekly 7:15 a.m. “Legislative Huddle.” This call is used to gather AGC member feedback on legislative proposals that impact construction and to give legislative staff direction on positions AGC should take on specific legislation being considered in the Legislature. To participate just send an email to Nancy O’Neil asking to sign up for the Legislative Huddle and you will receive email reminders and agendas.
Write: Emailed legislative alerts are a key tool used by legislators to understand how specific legislation impacts their constituents. In 2009 alone more than 7000 emails were sent by AGC members to their legislators. AGC’s position prevailed on 8 out of the 11 bills for which legislative alerts were initiated – meaning you have an effective voice! Your messages leverage AGC staff efforts. To sign up go to AGC’s website www.agcwa.com and select government affairs.
Testify: Make the trek to Olympia! You have the most influential and effective voice! Many AGC members testified at the legislature in 2009 and we want to continue our success in 2010. Government Affairs staff will develop talking points and help you prepare your testimony. AGC lobbying efforts are strengthened with your involvement!
Attend: Tuesday Jan. 26 2010 is AGC day in Olympia. Last year we hosted more than 40 AGC members in Olympia. Meet with your legislator and several other key policymakers to discuss priority issues for the construction industry. There will also be a reception with other construction groups and legislators.
