The Interstate Bridge is a vital transportation link for the greater Portland-Vancouver region. The northbound span is over 100 years old; the southbound span opened in 1958. The existing structures were not designed to support the needs of today’s transportation system. Washington and Oregon have dedicated a combined $80 million for initial planning work through the Interstate Bridge Replacement Program (IBRP) – and Washington’s recently passed transportation package earmarks $1 billion toward the state’s share of the new bridge.

Where does planning for the replacement bridge stand now? How is the design taking shape? How are controversial issues, such as public transit, being addressed? What land-based projects aside from the bridge itself are under development? What is the timeline?  What are some of the contracting issues surrounding this mega project?

These issues and more will be addressed through a virtual meeting with Greg Johnson, program administrator for IBRP.
